March for Men with Kev
Raising Awareness and Funds for Prostate Cancer
When our dear friend, husband, and father, Kevan Birkett, was 57, he started experiencing persistent neck and shoulder pain — something he put down to years of hard work as a painter and decorator. Concerned, he booked a doctor’s appointment on 29th November 2021. Just two days later, he received devastating news:
Kevan had prostate cancer.
Throughout his illness, Kevan remained determined to make a difference. Often seen walking around Petersfield — sometimes with bright blue hair — he worked tirelessly to raise awareness, urging men to know the signs and get checked early. His message was simple but powerful: early action saves lives. Prostate cancer can be treated or controlled if it’s caught soon enough.
Today, we march to honour Kevan’s memory and continue the important work he started.
Why It Matters
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.
Over 52,000 men are diagnosed every year — that’s 144 men every single day.
Every 45 minutes, one man dies from prostate cancer — more than 12,000 lives lost each year.
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.
How We’re Continuing
Kevan’s Legacy
After travelling to London with Kevan for the National March for Men, a group of us decided to start something of our own — a local walk to honour Kevan’s mission and continue the vital work he began.
March for Men with Kev was born in September 2023 — and it’s been amazing! We’ve come together as a community, raising awareness, fundraising, and having a lot of fun along the way.
In just two years, we’ve raised nearly £25,000
for Prostate Cancer UK and PCaSO.
Join Us for the 2025 Walk!
Date: Sunday 14th September 2025
Location: Petersfield Square
Time: From 10 am
This year, we’ll be raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK, PCaSO, and The Rosemary Foundation.
Come and be part of something special — a day of community, remembrance, and life-saving action. Together, we can save the lives of thousands of men.
